Hannah and Isabella

Haven't you heard? Snorking pure lime and lemon juice is SO the new thing!!!!!!
They were going to force me (Rebecca) to do this but decided it would be MUCH cooler if they did it to each other, (most to my joy). You may ask what exactly are they doing? Well on New Year's Eve, Isabella and her family came over for dinner and whatever you do on New Years Eve, the rest of the family went to get the dog, (a lab - Molly) and Izzy decided she would stay with Hannah.

Beach Volleyball Tournament - Oriental Bay January 09

I'm not exactly sure what this statue is named after/for but it has to be something about whales:)
Beach volley ball on the, well, the beach is quite popular these days, here we have Germany vs. USA,
(Germany in the lead) and believe it or not these are some of the best players in the world. New Zealand won the women's.

Fellow Canadians eh?

Hiking with fellow Canadians..Fred and Janet Caldwell (friends of our friend Christine Roarke in Hamilton) and their three girls out in Johnsonville near their house. Really gives you an idea of typical Kiwi topography..huge green steep hills and lots of space. That's the girls all at the top!
Fred and Janet are moving back to Canada after three years here.

Summer Mornings ??January 09

James at work wrapped in a sleeping bag! It is cold in the mornings even in summer!

Asthma study

This is an art piece at the Wellington hosital commemorating a study which found that one of the commonly used puffers was causing increased mortality amongst people with asthma. The study was done by the department that James is working with.

Ohiro Road Horses January 2009

These horses live just down the road around 1/2 km. They roam around the hill that we live on and come down during the day every so often.

Ohiro Bay, january 2009

Around 1km down the road from our house along Happy Valley Road is Ohiro Bay. On a clear day you can easily see the white capped hills of the South Island. We've been there lots looking for Paua shells (like Abalone), climbing the rocks looking in the tidal pools and we also sadly saw some dead little blue penquins. The dogs on the beach were the likely culprits.. Just around the bend is a seal colony but we haven't seen any seals.

Hannah climbing up with her rope.

Omelette's chez Hannah, Jan 09

Gingerbread xmas 2008

A gingerbread Kiwi...
Wow what loaded cookies.
Made by Rebecca and Connie...and Hannah and Maddie.
Making gingerbread in the summer means softer cookies and saggy gingerbread house walls...still tasted good though.

Oriental Bay, January 4th

The crocodile bike on Oriental Bay.
Wellington is ringed with fabulous beaches some with surfing, some with swimming, kayaking, snorkeling and a resident dolphin in the harbor. We chose to participate in the sport of ice cream eating!

Mt Victoria, January 4th

Picnic near the top of Mount Victoria. This is part of the Southern Walkway. Wellington's forefathers had great foresight and designed a serious of green belts throughout the whole city connecting all the areas. James ....hmm...not sure the forefathers could explain this photo!
More carrots!

The Beaufort scale...well known to all Wellingtonians as it quantifies the wind! The wind blows straight between the North and South Island along the Cook Straights and through the city. It has literally blown my glasses off and skirts without leggings seem too risky here. Umbrellas tremble and give up. On the positive side, there is no use trying for a sleek hairdo which is a relief. And the views are amazing!
