Grey Town, Wairarapa, February 2009

On vacation during our trip.
This is the batch (or cottage) of the Gray family who kindly loaned it to us for the weekend. Ben is a GP and his son Thomas goes to school with Rebecca. It is in an area called Wairarapa which is 1 and 1/2 hours North East from Wellington via the Rimatuka hills which is a two lane highway with a zillion switch backs. Over the hills is a flat area with towns Carterton (great gluten free food and Paua world), Greytown (where we stayed), Featherston (great game shop), and Martinborough which has beautiful vineyards. We went for a weekend of beautiful weather.
Here is the description of their batch that I wrote out in our thank you note in the style of a travel advertisement:

Take in the sites of Wairarapa including an educational visit to Stonehenge, a walk over the swing bridge with a brisk swim in the rapids, and gourmet treats from Schloc’s ch0colate . Don’t forget to fit in a few vineyards for some wine tasting and buy a few bottles of newly discovered favourites. Then arrive home to sip your wine on the front veranda of this lovely bach amidst the scents of roses and lavender and stroll the ample yard of youthful fruit trees.

James at the back yard of the batch reading a graphic novel version of his favourite novel - 'The Great Gatsby'. I'm enjoying the wine as well and reading NZ fiction from the 'Librarian's Choice' shelf at the Wellington public library.
