South Island, West Coast
From Queenstown we are heading into a few days of solid driving...out to the West Coast and then all the way up the West Coast to the North Coast and top of the South Island. We really debated doing this part of the trip as we have only three days and an old second hand car. PLus we heard it rained all the time as the water from the ocean is caught by the mountains right off the coast. But everyone we talked to said..don't miss the West Coast..it is unique. So off we go. The first leg is 365 km from Queenstown to Frans Josef.
Arriving at the coast from inland the highway passes stone scuptures built by wayward travellors. So we hop out and make our own. Seems like a West Coast thing to do...kind of artistic, laid back and with nature.
